Anthurium Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ × Red Spider

Anthurium Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ × Red Spider is a velvet foliage Anthurium hybrid combining the bold venation and colorful emergents associated with Red Crystal genetics with the elongated form and dramatic characteristics of Red Spider.

This cross has excellent potential for dark green mature foliage, reddish to bronze emergent leaves, contrasting venation, and progressively elongated leaf shapes as the plant matures. Young plants may begin with softer heart shaped foliage before developing more pronounced characteristics with each successive leaf.

Because this is a seed grown hybrid, individual plants can express the parent genetics differently. Mature leaf shape, color, venation, sinus, and emergent tones can all vary from plant to plant.

What You’ll Receive

One live Anthurium Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ × Red Spider plant.

Your plant will be carefully packed to help protect the foliage, root system, and active growing point during transit.

Plant Highlights

Velvety foliage

Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ genetics

Red Spider influence

Bronze to reddish emergent growth

Contrasting venation

Potential for elongated mature foliage

Deep green hardened leaves

Each seed grown plant develops its own individual characteristics

Light

Provide medium to bright indirect light.

Bright filtered light encourages healthy growth, stronger coloration, and progressively larger foliage. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, particularly during the hottest part of the day, as velvet Anthurium foliage can scorch.

Water

Water thoroughly once the upper portion of the growing media begins to dry.

Keep the root zone consistently lightly moist without allowing it to remain constantly saturated. Allow excess water to drain freely after each watering.

Avoid repeatedly allowing the plant to become completely dry, especially while new foliage is actively developing.

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity is preferred.

Humidity around 60 percent or higher can help encourage smoother leaf emergence and cleaner foliage development.

Higher humidity is particularly beneficial while new leaves are expanding, but good airflow should always accompany humid conditions.

Growing Media

Use a chunky, airy, well draining Anthurium mix that retains some moisture while maintaining plenty of oxygen around the roots.

A combination of tree fern fiber, orchid bark, coco chips, pumice, perlite, and coco coir works well.

Avoid dense growing media that remains saturated for extended periods.

Temperature

Warm temperatures are ideal, generally around 65 to 85°F.

Protect from frost, cold drafts, and prolonged exposure to temperatures below approximately 55°F.

Consistent warmth helps encourage strong root growth and more regular leaf production.

Airflow

Provide gentle airflow, particularly when growing in elevated humidity.

Good circulation helps prevent stagnant moisture around the foliage and root zone while still allowing the plant to benefit from humid conditions.

Fertilizer

Feed lightly and consistently during active growth using a diluted balanced fertilizer.

Regular light feeding can help support healthy root development and progressively larger foliage.

Periodically flushing the growing media can help prevent fertilizer salts from accumulating around the roots.

Growth Habit

Anthurium Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ × Red Spider develops from a central growth point and can become increasingly dramatic as successive leaves mature.

Juvenile foliage may remain relatively compact and heart shaped, while later growth may develop longer proportions, deeper sinuses, stronger venation, and a more defined overall shape.

Emergent Color

Colorful new growth is one of the most exciting characteristics expected from this cross.

Fresh leaves may emerge in shades of bronze, copper, red, reddish brown, or olive before gradually transitioning into deeper green tones as they harden.

The veins may also show stronger pink or reddish coloration while the leaf is young before becoming lighter and more defined with maturity.

About the Cross

The Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ parent contributes the potential for velvety foliage, prominent venation, and richly colored emergents.

The Red Spider side brings the potential for elongated foliage, dramatic proportions, and strong mature leaf structure.

Each seedling receives its own combination of these characteristics, so some plants may favor the Red Crystal side while others may develop stronger Red Spider influence.

Anthurium Red Crystal ‘Wu9’ × Red Spider combines colorful emergents, velvet texture, striking venation, and elongated foliage potential into a hybrid that should become increasingly impressive as it matures.
