Anthurium regale

Anthurium regale is one of the most dramatic velvet Anthurium species, prized for its enormous heart shaped foliage, deep green velvety surface, and bold silver white venation. Even at a young size, the leaves show the strong structure and contrasting veins that become increasingly impressive as the plant matures.

Native to Peru, Anthurium regale is especially known for its ability to produce exceptionally large foliage under favorable growing conditions. Successive leaves can increase dramatically in size as the root system becomes established, eventually creating the massive, deeply textured leaves that make this species so recognizable.

What You’ll Receive

One live Anthurium regale plant.

Your plant will be carefully packed to help protect the foliage, root system, and active growing point during transit.

Plant Highlights

Large velvety heart shaped foliage

Deep green mature leaves

Bold silver white venation

Strong elongated leaf shape

Leaves can become exceptionally large with maturity

Upright growth habit

Native Anthurium species from Peru

Dramatic foliage even at a juvenile stage

Light

Provide medium to bright indirect light.

Bright filtered light helps support strong growth and progressively larger foliage. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, particularly during the hottest part of the day, as the velvety leaves can scorch.

Consistent light is especially important when encouraging the plant to size up.

Water

Water thoroughly once the upper portion of the growing media begins to dry.

Anthurium regale appreciates consistent moisture but should never remain constantly waterlogged. Allow excess water to drain freely after each watering.

Avoid repeatedly allowing the root system to become completely dry, especially while a new leaf is developing.

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity is preferred.

Humidity around 60 percent or higher can help support smooth leaf emergence and healthy foliage development.

Higher humidity is particularly beneficial while new leaves are expanding, but good airflow should always accompany humid conditions.

Growing Media

Use a chunky, airy, moisture retentive but well draining Anthurium mix.

A combination of tree fern fiber, orchid bark, coco chips, pumice, perlite, and coco coir works well.

Anthurium regale develops a substantial root system when healthy, so providing plenty of oxygen around the roots is especially important.

Avoid dense growing media that remains saturated for extended periods.

Temperature

Warm temperatures are ideal, generally around 65 to 85°F.

Protect from frost, cold drafts, and prolonged exposure to temperatures below approximately 55°F.

Consistent warmth generally encourages stronger root development and more regular leaf production.

Airflow

Provide gentle airflow, particularly when growing in elevated humidity.

Good circulation helps prevent stagnant moisture from remaining around the foliage and root zone while still allowing the plant to benefit from humid conditions.

Fertilizer

Feed lightly and consistently during active growth using a diluted balanced fertilizer.

Regular light feeding can help support the substantial root system and increasingly large foliage this species is capable of producing.

Periodically flushing the growing media can help prevent fertilizer salts from accumulating around the roots.

Growth Habit

Anthurium regale develops from a central growth point, producing progressively larger leaves as the plant becomes established.

Juvenile foliage can already display the characteristic elongated heart shape, but mature leaves become considerably larger and more dramatic.

A healthy root system is one of the biggest factors in producing progressively larger foliage, so allowing the plant adequate root space as it matures can make a noticeable difference.

New Leaf Development

Fresh Anthurium regale leaves are extremely soft and delicate while expanding.

New foliage may emerge bronze, olive green, reddish green, or lighter green before gradually deepening into the characteristic dark green mature color.

The veins often become increasingly defined as the leaf expands and hardens.

Avoid touching or repositioning new leaves whenever possible. Damage that occurs while the foliage is soft will remain visible once the leaf has hardened.

Mature Foliage

Size is one of the defining characteristics of Anthurium regale.

Under favorable conditions, mature plants can develop enormous leaves with a broad heart shaped base, elongated tip, deep velvet texture, and striking pale venation.

Leaf size depends heavily on genetics, root health, nutrition, humidity, light, temperature, and consistency of care. Successive leaves generally become larger as the plant establishes.

Anthurium regale combines massive foliage potential, velvet texture, and bold contrasting veins into one of the most impressive Anthurium species to grow from juvenile plant to mature specimen.
